Assignments
Surveying
1. A survey of the Northern Barrier Range
will begin before the snows start.
2. We must familiarize ourselves with the
various jump points used for emergency situations.
3. Once the snows begin we must stay up to
date on landscape conditions for their appearance can and will change
drastically as the snowfalls increase and please note that avalanches do occur!
4. We need to locate potential hazardous
areas so that warning signs can be placed. Any safe area can become hazardous as
the weather progresses, therefore you will continuously check for hazardous
areas during patrols.
Patrol
1. Riders should watch for changes in the
weather and report changes to the watchdragons at the Holds and to your rescue
wing leader.
2. Riders should watch for any who may be in
a potentially dangerous area and issue a danger warning.
3. Make frequent checks of those enjoying
winter sports. These are the ones who most often need help.
4. Make frequent checks of caravans and other
travelers in case assistance or medical help is needed. Travelers frequently
experience non medical emergencies when traveling in the winter months, such as
wagons in need of repair. Sometimes travelers are forced to stay out overnight,
or several nights, till their wagons are repaired. If any traveler refuses to be
transported to the weyr or to a nearby hold, include them on patrol duties. We
protect all of Pern, even stubborn Pernese.
5. Each Wing will be on call for eight hours
at a time. Every four hours, the wing on call will supply a patrol team of two
riders to perform patrol duties. The remaining on call Wing members will remain
alert in case the patrol riders summon the Wing for an emergency.
