Telgar Weyr is located high in the Northern Mountain Range of Pern. The Holds under its wing face many perils due to harsh winter ice storms, and flash floods in the spring. The leadership of Telgar Weyr considers it their duty to not only protect the land, but to protect the people. Therefore, from the beginning of winter until the end of the spring thaw, rescue patrols are organized and trained to handle most any emergency.

After turns of experience, it was noted that smaller dragons were better suited to Rescue Wing duties. There are some larger dragons who participate, but the tight flying conditions when trying to reach a victim stranded on a ledge often needs the special talents of a green or blue dragon.

It is an honor to be chosen to fly with the rescue wings. Only the best riding pairs make it through the training to be chosen to fly with these special wings.
